symmetry Magazine

Born out of the need to further the public’s knowledge of particle physics, Fermilab approached Sandbox and asked us to give it go. We dove in, learned as much about high-energy/particle physics as we could, and set out to ensure that the powers that be know what wonderful and interesting science is taking place. Five years on, we’re still doing just that.

symmetry Accelerates to 12 Web-Based Issues per Year

Since 2004, Sandbox has collaborated with Fermilab and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory to design and produce the particle physics magazine, symmetry. At the time, symmetry was a 10-times-a-year publication that, with the help of Xeno Media, was also made available online.

Now, after 51 print issues, symmetry is transformi…   more »

symmetry Magazine, February 2012

For symmetry‘s 51st issue, the first of 2012, the cover story continues to evolve and generate interest and buzz across the globe. Back in September, a report from CERN threw the physics community a knuckleball of massive proportions: Members of the OPERA neutrino experiment announced that after months of checking, recheck…   more »

symmetry, Seven Years On

In the wake of the release of symmetry‘s fiftieth issue, we were reminded that today, Friday, October 28th, 2011, marks the seventh anniversary of symmetry‘s official web launch. The occasion was documented in that morning’s edition of Fermilab Today. What crazy, freewheelin’ times those were.

symmetry Magazine, October 2011

This issue of symmetry Magazine is not only fascinating, it also happens to be symmetry‘s 50th issue!

In the issue, readers get a firsthand look at the new, proposed accelerator at Fermilab, a physicist turned cancer researcher at SLAC, and another Fermilab experiment that looks into the reality of 3D.

Sneak-Peak of symmetry Magazine's 50th Issue

50th Issue of symmetry Magazine Forthcoming!

Certain numbers have a way of making us pause, reflect on the past, and look to what the future may hold. An 18th birthday, a tenth wedding anniversary, and now, a 50th issue. So as the 50th issue of symmetry magazine is sent off to the printer, all of us at Sandbox paused to reflect and consider how we have gotten this far. In short, it has bee…   more »
