A Spiral of Friday Fun

Field Trip to the Modern Wing!

Friday afternoons have a way of dragging on. Noticing this, the Sandbosses shooed us into a cab and off we went to the Art Institute’s new Modern Wing. Currently the Art Institute has an exhibition entitled “Avant-Garde Art in Everyday Life” and it’s full of, well, you can read about it here. The ballsy political commentary of the work slaps you in the face and makes one pine for an honest discussion about anything from any one of our elected jabbering do-nothings. (I’ll step down from the soap-box now.)

After working our way through the Avant-Garde exhibit, we scattered through the modern wing like frightened mice trying to see as much as we could. At some point it dawned on me how lucky I was to have been sitting at my desk at 2:05 on a friday afternoon, and by 2:35, found myself standing in front of Charles Ray’s, Hinoki.

Do yourself a favor and take an afternoon off and head to the Art Institute. It washes away the week’s angst and reminds you that the world isn’t so terrible after all.

A few photos from in and around the gallery.
