Elmhurst College Football Field
No other sport dominates the fall like football. And on the very grass-like gridiron of one suburban Chicago college, the years had taken their toll. This fall season Elmhurst College christened their new sports field and it is partially thanks to Sandbox. Earlier in the year, Sandbox was brought in to deliver the proper collegiate sports gravitas and deftly integrate the lines for three sports played by no fewer than five intercollegiate teams—football, men’s and women’s soccer, and two new additions over the next year, men’s and women’s lacrosse.
Creating a new design for the surface of a field was definitely a first for Sandbox. Like the game of football itself, there are a myriad of rules and regulations governing the fabrication of an NCAA regulation field. There are the boxes where the football teams stand that need to be demarcated, there are soccer lines that should be visible but not distracting, and the installation itself is another massive undertaking.
